Henrik Zetterberg, a Swedish professional ice hockey forward and captain of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL).Along with winning the Stanley Cup in 2008, Zetterberg won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the 2008. Zetterberg made his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on 10 October 2002, at the Joe Louis Arena. He played in 79 games his rookie season, scoring 22 goals and 22 assists for 44 points, leading all first-year players. Zetterberg finished the season as runner-up for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year behind St. Louis Blues defenceman Barret Jackman. In his second season, Zetterberg nearly matched his rookie stats despite missing 21 games due to a broken leg suffered against the Vancouver Canucks early in the season on 5 November 2003. Due to the owners' lockout the next season, Zetterberg returned to Sweden to play for Timrĺ IK in 2004–05, leading the Elitserien in scoring with 50 points in 50 games Stanley Cup playoffs. He won gold medals in the 2006 Ice Hockey World Championships and 2006 Winter Olympics, as part of the first team to ever win both tournaments in the same year, also making him a member of the Triple Gold Club.
Tomas Tatar is a Slovak professional ice hockey left winger for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. He was drafted 60th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Tatar was named the Second Star of the Week for the week ending 24 November 2014. He tied for second in the NHL with four goals and one assist, including two game-winning goals, to lead the Red Wings to two victories in three games. He was also named the Second Star of the Week for the week ending 19 January 2015; he tied for first in the League with five goals and two assists, scoring in four straight games, to lead the Red Wings to four-straight victories.
Gustav Nyquist is a Swedish professional ice hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Nyquist was drafted 121st overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Gustav made his NHL debut with Detroit on 1 November 2011, in a game against the Minnesota Wild. On 26 March 2012, he scored his first career NHL goal against Steve Mason of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Nyquist made his Stanley Cup playoff debut on 13 April 2012, against the Nashville Predators. He was re-called from Grand Rapids after forward Darren Helm suffered a deep gash to his right forearm in Game 1, when he was cut by the skate blade of Alexander Radulov, leading to season-ending surgery.
Andreas Athanasiou is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Athanasiou was drafted 110th overall by the Red Wings in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He is 22 years old and born on August 6, 1994.Athanasiou made his NHL debut for the Red Wings on November 8, 2015 in a game against the Dallas Stars. On November 10, in his second NHL game, Athanasiou scored his first career NHL goal against Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals. On February 5, 2016, Athanasiou was recalled by the Detroit Red Wings. Prior to being recalled, he recorded eight goals and eight assists in 26 games for the Griffins.
Dylan Larkin is an American professional Hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Larkin was drafted 15th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. On October 5, 2015, Larkin made the Red Wings' final roster for the 2015–16 season, becoming the first 19-year-old to debut on opening night since Mike Sillinger in 1990–91. In his NHL debut, on October 9, 2015, Larkin recorded his first career NHL point, an assist in the first period, and his first NHL goal in the second period against Jonathan Bernier of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He became the first Red Wings teenager to score in his first NHL game since Steve Yzerman in 1983. On November 21, Larkin scored a goal for the fourth consecutive game, becoming the first Red Wings teenager to do so since Steve Yzerman in 1984–85. Larkin was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November 2015. He led all rookies with seven goals in 13 games in November. He leads all rookies with 10 goals, and a +14 plus/minus rating. He shares first with three game-winning goals, and ranks third with 18 points and 64 shots on goal in 24 games this season.
Abdelkader was drafted 42nd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. On April 3, 2008, Abdelkader signed a one-game amateur tryout with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and was to play that night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. In doing so, he forfeited his college eligibility for the 2008–09 season. The following day, Abdelkader signed a three-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings. He played one more game that season for Detroit. In June when Detroit won the Stanley Cup Abdelkader was part of the team celebration. He was included on the team picture, and awarded a Stanley Cup Ring. Abdelkader did not play enough games to qualify for engravement on the Stanley Cup in 2008.
Darren Helm (born January 21, 1987) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. In 2007–08, Helm started his professional playing career and was assigned by the Red Wings to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Near the end of the season, he was called up to Detroit and played his first NHL game on March 13, 2008. Helm remained with the Red Wings for their 2008 playoff run, centring the fourth line, and scored his first NHL goal on May 10, 2008, during game two of the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Stars. He contributed 2 goals and 2 assists in 18 playoff games, helping the Red Wings to the franchise's 11th Stanley Cup.
Frans Nielsen (born 24 April 1984) is a Danish professional ice hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He spent the first 10 years of his NHL career playing with the New York Islanders.
He is the first Danish citizen to play in the NHL. Nielsen was drafted by the New York Islanders in the third round, 87th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. After playing in the Swedish Elitserien since 2001, Nielsen signed a two-year contract with the New York Islanders on 15 May 2006. He has also played for the Danish national team.
Riley Sheahan (born December 7, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey centre for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Sheahan was drafted 21st overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Sheahan performed well enough at Canada’s 2011 National Junior Team prospect camp in the summer of 2010 and was asked to come back to the Selection Camp in December 2010.On April 5, 2012, the Detroit Red Wings signed Sheahan to a three-year entry-level contract. On April 7, 2012, Sheahan made his NHL debut for the Detroit Red Wings in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. On January 11, 2014, Sheahan scored his first career NHL goal against Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings.
Drew Miller (born February 17, 1984) is an American professional ice hockey winger who is currently playing for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Miller was born in Dover, New Jersey, but grew up in East Lansing, Michigan.
Miller was drafted in the sixth round, 186th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut on April 19, 2007, playing with the Anaheim Ducks against the Minnesota Wild. He is the younger brother of Vancouver Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller.
Tomáš Nosek (born 1 September 1992) is a Czech professional ice hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL).
During the 2014–15 season, Nosek recorded 11 goals and 23 assists in 55 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins. He was tied with teammate Nick Jensen for the league lead with a plus-30 rating despite being limited to 55 games due to injury. During the Calder Cup playoffs, he recorded two goals and five assists in 12 games.
On 14 June 2014, Nosek signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings.
Ben Street (born February 13, 1987) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). An undrafted player, Street played five seasons of college hockey with the Wisconsin Badgers before turning professional in 2010. He joined the Calgary Flames organization in 2012, before signing with the Colorado Avalanche in 2014.
