A turtle is a slow-moving reptile, enclosed in a
scaly or leathery domed shell into which it can
retract its head and thick legs. The shell also
protects them from other animals
They are among the oldest and
most primitive groups of reptiles, having evolved
millions of years ago. Turtles live all over the
world in almost every type of climate.

Facts about turtles:
1. Turtles belong to one of the oldest reptile groups in the world, beating snakes, crocodiles, and alligators.
2. They date back to the time of the dinosaurs, over 200 million years ago.
3.A turtles shell is actually part of its skeleton. Its made of over 50 bones which include the turtles rib cage and spine.
4. A turtle cannot come out of its shell. The shell grows with them, so its impossible for them to grow too big for it.
Differences between turtles and tortoises:
Tortoises are on land and turtles are in water
Tortoises are mostly found in Asia and Africa and Turtles are found in Africa and America
Tortoises mostly have large dome shaped shells with bumps on top in some species and turtles are mostly flat, streamlined shells
Tortoises shells are heavier and turtles shells are generally light weighted
Tortoises feet are short and sturdy with bent legs and turtles have webbed feet with long claws
Most tortoises are herbivores and turtles are omnivores
Tortoises live from 80-150 years and turtles live from 20-40 years
